Luis A. Rodriguez is a 17 year veteran of the New York City Police Department. He has used his extensive medical background to assist in the training of over 5,000 School Safety Division personnel in active shooter response and point of wounding care. Luis has also instructed in the areas of prescription drugs, bullying/cyber bullying and introduction to law.

Officer Rodriguez has also served in United States Navy Reserve for 26 years as a Hospital Corpsman, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His duties included the medical care of Sailors and Marines, not limited to: emergency medical care, nursing care, and minor surgeries.

He is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm, and was deployed in 1990 with the 5th Marine Battalion as a line corpsman. In 2003, he was recalled again with Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 203 to Crete, Greece. In 2009, his final deployment with the Maritime Expeditionary Security Group 2 to Kuwait Naval Base, Kuwait.

Officer Rodriguez’s experience in the field of medical care with the military has led him to be one of the course instructors of the NYPD active shooter medical training program.
